Lasers penetrate deep into the skin and specifically target the root of the hair.
IPLs are unable to target the hair follicle specifically, which can result in potential damage to the skin.
What is the LightSheer Desire Laser?
The LightSheer Desire Laser is the newest generation of laser hair removal technology, and the most advanced member of Lumenis LightSheer family of products. Like its predecessor, the LightSheer Duet, the Desire continues to bring unparalleled speed and comfort to the process of hair removal.
The LightSheer Desire works by combining two technologies- High-Speed Integrated Technology (HIT), which uses an advanced vacuum-like technique to reduce hair in larger patches, and ChillTip Technology, which uses a specialized cooling mechanism to maximize patient comfort while treating smaller or more delicate areas with precision.
Candidates for Laser Hair Removal with LightSheer Desire
The LightSheer Desire technology has been clinically tested and proven to be suitable for most of skin types, and for both men and women alike. If you have unwanted body or facial hair, the LightSheer Desire can help you.
Before LightSheer technology, removing hair from large areas such as the back or legs could be painful, expensive, and extremely time-consuming. With the LightSheer Desire though, treatments for those large areas can be done in as little as fifteen to twenty minutes, without any need for gels, anesthetics, or other preparation. At the same time, the LightSheer Desire’s versatility allows it to treat the more delicate face or bikini region just as quickly.
LightSheer Desire vs. IPL
To begin with, you should know that both laser and IPL work on removing unwanted hair in essentially the same way. Both require that the region to be treated is shaved prior to the procedure. Both convert light energy into heat energy which will heat up the hair follicle, prompting the bulb of the hair to fall out thus reducing hair growth. However, this is where the similarity ends.
The main difference between Laser and IPL is the process by which the light is produced, the type of light, and how well it is absorbed by different hair and skin types.
Most salons state that they use Laser Hair Removal machines when in fact they mostly use the VPL/IPL (Variable/Intense Pulse Light). The IPL machines are much cheaper to manufacture but unfortunately the light is “one-size-fits-all” in terms of its effectiveness on the hair.
How many treatments will I need?
Hair colour, density, location and skin type are all contributing factors of how many treatments you will require. We recommend that you take up a course of between 6-10 treatments. You may also need a few maintenance treatments.
Will my hair type and color respond?
Thick, dark hair usually responds best to laser. However, you may get very effective results even if you have fine, light coloured hair. White, white-blonde and some red coloured hair will not respond well. This is common to all lasers so beware of false promises.
Do I need a patch test?
All salons should ALWAYS do a patch test on every area you wish to treat due to the varied sensitivity of the skin on different parts of the body. You must have a patch test at least 48 hours before treating the whole area.
How much will it cost?
As stated before, IPL is usually cheaper than Laser as the machines they use are a lot cheaper and the results are far less effective. Cheaper isn’t always better as the quality of the treatment will most likely be compromised. Laser may seem expensive, but with this treatment you know that you will receive results that lasts compared to IPL, waxing or threading.
